- Tummalapalle uranium mine reserves are found to be about 45,000 tonnes. The total proven world reserves are about 5.4 million tonnes and a third of it in Australia [1]. In short, this "largest mine" that Times of India calls accounted for less than 1% of the world's proven reserves. Let's hold off the toast.
- It is one thing to find a proven resource and another to get it out of the ground & process it. Some random environmentalist would often stay in the way. Then there would be 300 different clearances that will be required. The technology has to be gotten somehow. Often times, Indian industries find it much easier to import reserves.
- Fwiw, India has already started production in the mine. But, India needs so much nuclear material that we need this AP mine AND reserves from rest of the world.
